Srinagar: As winter settles across Jammu and Kashmir, temperatures have plunged well below freezing, creating severe cold conditions for residents. Dr. Azhar Masoodi, the Head of the Department of General Medicine at GMC Handwara, has issued an urgent call for the public to take necessary precautions to protect their health during this challenging season.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Masoodi advised against outdoor activity in the early morning and late evening when the cold is at its harshest. He stressed that if leaving the house is unavoidable, individuals should wear masks to shield themselves from the risk of colds and coughs.

In addition to this, Dr. Masoodi recommended incorporating dry vegetables, honey, and hot water into the winter diet, as these can enhance immunity and help keep the body warm. He also highlighted the significant health risks posed by the extreme cold, including the increased likelihood of strokes, and emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures and following prescribed medication throughout the winter months.

Dr. Masoodi specifically urged parents and caregivers to ensure that children and elderly individuals avoid outdoor exposure during the coldest parts of the day to minimize health risks.

As the region faces plunging temperatures, following these precautions is crucial for safeguarding public health and preventing winter-related illnesses.
