Srinagar: The meeting that JK-EJAC attended a few days back headed by General Secretary JK-EJAC and convenor TUCC J&K Syed Ghulam Rasool Geelani under the leadership of General Secretary TUCC India S P Tiwari is turning out to be fruitful.

General Secretary JK-EJAC Syed Ghulam Rasool Geelani said that “The increase in the daily wages of casual labourers from Rs 225 to Rs 300 is the first development done by the central government and the Union Territory administration for which we are grateful to Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav , Secretary to Ministry of Labour and Employment Sunil Barthwal , Chief Secretary and Honourable Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha but the revision of Minimum Wages has not been done on the basis of increase in DA since 2017.”

Geelani said, “Trade union coordination centre J&K and JK-EJAC are working on the facts that what should be the actual revised rate for which I am putting all my efforts and very soon, we will submit our detailed and factual report to labour department of J&K for the necessary corrigendum of the same order.”

He called it an interim measure and not an actual implementation of minimum wages act that they have been assured with and will take a few months for its actual implementation.”

For a time being, it will bring a sigh of relief to the working class on this favourable occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr but it is not the permanent solution.

Geelani strongly demanded for the implementation of minimum wages act and regularization policy in favour of temporary and contractual workers in order to have a decrease in the sufferings of their lives.
