“It Will Be Suicidal for the Congress”: Prashant Bhushan Warns Against Fielding Robert Vadra for Amethi Lok Sabha Seat Amidst Speculation

Amidst growing speculation that the Congress Party might nominate Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, Senior Supreme Court Lawyer Prashant Bhushan has sounded a cautionary note, warning the Congress party about the potentially detrimental consequences of such a move.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Prashant Bhushan expressed his concerns, stating, “It will be suicidal for the Congress to give a ticket to Robert Vadra from Amethi or anywhere else.”

Robert Vadra himself has indicated his interest in contesting the upcoming polls from Amethi, a constituency that was once considered a stronghold for the Congress until the last Lok Sabha election results were announced.

“I would prefer Amethi if I were to contest. It would be my first step in politics,” Vadra remarked last Thursday, underlining the sentiment that Amethi desires representation from within the family.

Vadra’s statement has ignited further speculation about the potential candidacy of Priyanka Gandhi in Rae Bareli for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, a constituency traditionally represented by her mother, Sonia Gandhi.

In previous elections, Rahul Gandhi faced defeat at the hands of BJP’s Smriti Irani in Amethi, although he secured victory in the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.

As of now, the Congress party has yet to announce candidates for both seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Vadra’s expressed interest in contesting from Amethi suggests a lack of confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s ability to secure victory there, hinting that he may opt to contest from only one seat this time. Additionally, apart from Priyanka Gandhi, no other leader has shown interest in the Bareilly seat.
