As the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 approach, the political landscape is dotted with a myriad of party symbols, each striving to capture attention amidst the electoral frenzy. Amidst this backdrop, independent candidate Pandit Keshav Dev from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has seized upon a rather unconventional symbol allotted by the Election Commission – a pair of slippers.

In a bid to leave a lasting impression on voters, Dev has embarked on a campaign strategy that incorporates his symbol in a distinctive manner. Sporting a garland adorned with seven slippers around his neck, he aims to foster recall among the electorate amidst the sea of political imagery.

The Lok Sabha polls are slated to unfold in seven phases, commencing on April 19th. Uttar Pradesh, renowned for its significant electoral clout with 80 parliamentary seats, will witness polling across all seven phases, reflecting its pivotal role in shaping the nation’s political trajectory.

The electoral schedule for Uttar Pradesh spans a considerable duration, with phases one and two slated for April 19th and April 26th, respectively. Subsequently, voters in the state will once again exercise their franchise in phases three and four on May 7th and May 13th. The electoral process will culminate with phases five, six, and seven scheduled for May 20th, May 23rd, and June 1st, respectively.

Aligarh, a key constituency in Uttar Pradesh, is set to go to polls during the second phase on April 26th, with the anticipation building towards the culmination of the electoral process on June 4th, when the counting of votes will take place.

Reflecting on past electoral outcomes, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections witnessed BJP candidate Satish Kumar Gautam emerging victorious from Aligarh, securing 656,215 votes. The BJP’s triumph superseded the challenge posed by BSP’s Dr. Ajeet Baliyan, who garnered 426,954 votes.
