India energy security LPG LNG crude oil supply review global tensions 2026

India remains in a stable and comfortable position regarding its energy security despite ongoing global geopolitical tensions, according to media reports citing government and industry sources.

Officials indicated that current fuel stocks are adequate and are being replenished on a daily basis. Sources said there is no shortage of LPG or LNG supplies in the country, and global crude oil availability remains sufficient.

No Immediate Supply Concerns

As per news agency inputs, India continues to import around 195 million metric standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD) of natural gas. Of this, approximately 60 MMSCMD comes from Qatar. Sources said the government is actively exploring alternative sourcing options to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on any single supplier.

They added that there is no disruption in crude oil availability in the international market, and India remains in touch with multiple suppliers to ensure uninterrupted energy flows.

Talks With Australia, Canada, UAE and US

Government sources further revealed that Australia and Canada have expressed willingness to supply gas to India. New Delhi is evaluating additional alternative markets as part of a broader diversification strategy.

Recently, India signed new energy supply agreements with the United Arab Emirates and the United States to strengthen long-term procurement arrangements, reports said.

Engagement With Global Energy Bodies

India is also holding discussions with major oil-producing nations and global energy traders for crude oil and LPG procurement. In addition, talks are ongoing with key international energy institutions, including the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), to closely monitor supply trends and market stability.

Insurance Talks With US, Situation Under Constant Review

Sources said India is in discussions with the United States regarding insurance mechanisms for ships to ensure secure transportation of energy supplies amid heightened geopolitical risks.

Officials confirmed that the government is reviewing the energy situation twice daily to assess global developments and take timely decisions if required.

According to media reports and news agency sources, India’s diversified sourcing strategy and strong stock position are helping the country remain insulated from immediate supply shocks despite volatility in global energy markets.
