Siddharth Anand’s much-anticipated Bollywood action-thriller, “Fighter,” hit theaters on January 25, 2024, with stars like Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor leading the cast. Despite positive reviews from audiences, the film faced challenges at the box office, prompting a shift in its release strategy.
Reports from Dainik Jagran indicate that “Fighter” will now make its debut on the OTT platform Netflix. The streaming giant has reportedly secured the digital rights for an impressive sum of around Rs 150 crore. While the exact release date is yet to be officially confirmed, sources suggest that fans can expect to stream the film on Netflix from March 21 onwards.
The decision to transition “Fighter” to an OTT release comes in the wake of its underwhelming performance at the box office. Although the film boasted a substantial budget of 250 crores, it fell short of expectations, managing to gross just over 200 crores domestically and 300 crores globally. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan revealed that the film has garnered a total of Rs 323 crore worldwide.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, known for his work on blockbusters like “Pathaan” and “War,” “Fighter” promised to deliver high-octane action and suspense. Alongside Roshan, Padukone, and Kapoor, the film features a talented supporting cast including Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Sartaj Gill.
Produced by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures, “Fighter” initially hit theaters with much fanfare but faced challenges in attracting audiences amidst stiff competition. Now, with its upcoming OTT release, the film aims to reach a wider audience and make a lasting impact in the digital realm.
