In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has unveiled its seat-sharing formula. The announcement, made on Monday, allocates a total of 38 seats among its constituent parties, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) securing the lion’s share.
According to Vinod Tawde, the BJP’s in-charge for elections in Bihar, the breakdown of seats is as follows: the BJP will contest 17 seats, the JD(U) will contest 16, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) will field candidates in five constituencies. Additionally, two other NDA allies, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha led by Upendra Kushwaha, will each contest one seat.
“The BJP will contest 17 out of the total 40 seats, and the JD(U) will contest 16. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest five seats,” stated Tawde during a press conference held at the BJP headquarters.
Raju Tiwari, the chief of LJP (Ram Vilas) in Bihar, disclosed that Chirag Paswan, the leader of the party, will contest from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. This seat has been allocated to the LJP under the seat-sharing arrangement.
However, notable was the absence of any mention of Union Minister Pashupati Paras’s LJP faction in the seat-sharing agreement. Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary assured that discussions are ongoing with him, indicating that efforts are underway to address any remaining concerns within the alliance.
The announcement of the seat-sharing formula comes as a crucial step in solidifying the NDA’s electoral strategy in Bihar. With the distribution of seats among its key constituents, the alliance aims to present a united front and maximize its electoral prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
