As political tensions grip Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dispelled rumors swirling in the media regarding his purported resignation from office.
Addressing the press amidst swirling speculation, Sukhu vehemently denied reports suggesting his resignation, asserting his commitment to serving out the full term of the Congress government. “I want to clarify that I haven’t resigned. I am a warrior,” Sukhu affirmed, emphasizing his determination to weather the storm and prove his government’s majority during the upcoming Budget Session.
The alleged resignation came amid reports of discontent among Congress legislators, fueling uncertainty over the stability of the state government. While initial reports indicated that Sukhu voluntarily tendered his resignation, the Congress high command reportedly did not request his departure.
The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh grew increasingly fraught with the suspension of 15 BJP MLAs, led by Opposition Leader Jairam Thakur, from the state Assembly. The suspension followed their call for a floor test in light of the ruling Congress’s defeat in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.
In the wake of the political upheaval, Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh resigned from his ministerial post, citing concerns over governance and expressing disappointment over the party’s handling of his late father, Virbhadra Singh.
The Rajya Sabha polls delivered a surprising blow to the ruling Congress, as BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan secured victory amidst allegations of cross-voting within the Congress ranks. Mahajan’s win has further unsettled Chief Minister Sukhu’s position, prompting intervention from the Congress high command, with senior leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and D K Shivakumar dispatched to engage with dissatisfied MLAs.
As Himachal Pradesh braces for continued political turbulence, the resilience of its leadership and the fate of the state government hang in the balance, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments in the days ahead.
