Handwara police arrest drug peddler in Langate, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar: In its continuous efforts to combat the menace of drugs in society, Handwara police arrested a drug peddler in Langate and recovered contraband substances from his possession.

Acting on specific information, a police party from police post Langate, led by the in-charge of the post, established a checkpoint at Kuhroo Bridge. During routine checking, a suspicious individual, identified as Hilal Ahmad Tantray, son of Mohammad Yousuf Tantray, a resident of Takiya Langate, attempted to evade the police. He was promptly intercepted, and a search led to the recovery of 55 grams of a Charas-like contraband substance from his possession.

The accused was immediately arrested and shifted to police station Handwara for further investigation. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and any possible links to a larger drug network.

Handwara police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and have urged the public to report any instances of drug peddling or other crimes by contacting the nearest police station or dialling 112.

“We appeal to the community to support our efforts in curbing the drug problem and safeguarding the future of our younger generations. The police will take strict action against offenders and ensure the law is upheld to eliminate this social evil,” a police spokesperson said.

The proactive efforts of Handwara police have been widely appreciated by locals, who have expressed hope for a drug-free society.
