Patna: In a swift political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday unveiled its second list of 12 candidates, with a major surprise inclusion — folk singer Maithili Thakur, who joined the party barely a day ago.
The young singer, known for her soulful renditions of Maithili folk and classical songs, has been fielded from the Alinagar constituency. Her nomination, coming just 24 hours after her induction into the BJP, underscores the party’s strategy to blend cultural influence with political outreach in the Mithilanchal region.
The BJP has also named former IPS officer Anand Mishra as its candidate from Buxar, banking on his disciplined background and public connect. Alongside, another woman candidate Chhoti Kumari will contest from Chhapra, reflecting the BJP’s continued emphasis on female representation in its ticket distribution.
With this announcement, the BJP has now declared 83 candidates, including 11 women, for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
