Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the pressing issue of unscheduled power cuts in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, assuring that uninterrupted electricity would become a reality once 100% metering of electricity consumption is completed.

Speaking to the media, Omar Abdullah acknowledged the significant strain placed on the power system due to excessive and unauthorized usage. “There are individuals with agreements to use power for just a few bulbs, yet they end up consuming electricity equivalent to several heaters. This overloads the entire system,” he said. The Chief Minister urged the public to cooperate with authorities to help streamline power consumption and reduce unnecessary burden on the system.

The ongoing harsh winter has compounded the region’s power challenges, with frozen water pipes making matters worse for residents. Despite these difficulties, Omar Abdullah expressed optimism that snowfall could help improve conditions by easing some of the weather-related obstacles.

“We are working diligently to address these issues, but some challenges will continue until statehood is restored,” remarked CM Omar Abdullah, acknowledging the broader governance hurdles in the Union Territory.
