Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai took a striking step to demand justice for a 19-year-old student who was allegedly sexually assaulted at Anna University. In a symbolic protest held in Coimbatore, Annamalai whipped himself six times, emphasizing the urgency of the issue and calling for swift action.
Annamalai, a vocal critic of the ruling DMK government, announced during a press conference on Thursday that he would fast for 48 days and abstain from wearing footwear until the DMK is ousted from power in Tamil Nadu. Highlighting the significance of his protest, he said, “Tomorrow, I will whip myself six times in front of my house as an appeal to the six-armed Murugan. Protests will also be staged outside the houses of BJP members across the state.”
The protest is part of the BJP’s broader campaign against the DMK government, which Annamalai accuses of failing to ensure women’s safety and justice in Tamil Nadu. His dramatic gesture aims to draw attention to the plight of victims and the alleged inaction of authorities.
