The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has flagged 111 drug samples as “Not of Standard Quality” (NSQ) after testing conducted in November. Of these, 41 drugs were analyzed in the central laboratory, while 70 were tested in state laboratories.
Drugs are categorized as NSQ when they fail to meet specific quality standards in the testing process. However, it’s important to note that the failure pertains to the specific batch tested, and does not imply that other products from the same manufacturer or batch in the market are also substandard. An official statement clarified that such findings are based solely on the samples examined.
As part of its ongoing regulatory oversight, the CDSCO conducts random testing of drug samples from sales and distribution points. The results are then published on the CDSCO portal, making the list of NSQ drugs available to the public. The current list, based on November’s tests, includes details like the drug composition, manufacturing and expiry dates, as well as the manufacturer’s name and the specific test the product failed.
