New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on [date] passed the Waqf Amendments Bill 2024 after a heated debate, with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing enough votes to approve the legislation. The final tally saw 288 MPs voting in favor and 232 against, out of a total of 520 members who participated in the vote.

The bill, which introduces key amendments to the Waqf Act, faced stiff resistance from the opposition INDIA bloc. A total of 150 amendments proposed by the opposition were rejected during the proceedings. The final vote count reflected the political divide, with all NDA MPs present voting in favor (288 out of their total strength of 293), while the INDIA bloc registered 232 votes against the bill (out of their total strength of 237). No MPs abstained from voting.

The passage of the bill marks a significant legislative move, with proponents arguing that it brings necessary reforms to the administration and regulation of waqf properties. However, the opposition has strongly criticized the amendments, alleging that they undermine minority rights and were passed without adequate consultation.

The bill will now move to the Rajya Sabha, where further discussions and voting are expected.
