New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced its decision to legally challenge the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, calling it a discriminatory and unconstitutional attack on the rights of the Muslim community. The influential Muslim body has also vowed to mobilize nationwide protests to resist the bill, likening its movement to the farmers’ agitation.
As the Lok Sabha debated the bill on Wednesday, AIMPLB Vice President Mohammad Ali Mohsin issued a strong statement rejecting it outright. “We categorically reject the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. It is discriminatory, communally motivated, and a blatant infringement on the constitutional rights of Muslim citizens,” he declared.
Calling the proposed amendments a direct assault on religious freedoms, Mohsin reaffirmed that the AIMPLB would fight both in the courts and on the streets. “We have started this fight because we want to save the country. Our aim is to put an end to this black law,” he asserted.
Nationwide Protests Planned
AIMPLB leaders warned of large-scale demonstrations across the country if the bill is passed, with Mohsin stating, “We will organize programs across the country just like farmers did. If needed, we will block roads and take all peaceful measures to oppose the bill.”
According to AIMPLB, the bill threatens the autonomy of the Waqf Board by altering its composition and introducing non-Muslim members, thereby interfering with the Muslim community’s right to manage its own religious and charitable endowments.
The organization also expressed grave concerns over government interference, accusing the bill of allowing government entities to seize Waqf properties, which they claim endangers the existence of these religious endowments.
AIMPLB leaders further criticized the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s (JPC) report, alleging that it failed to address key concerns and instead upheld the bill’s flawed provisions.
