New Delhi: In a major strategic move ahead of crucial state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as the chief election in-charge for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. Alongside him, Union Minister CR Paatil and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya have been named as co-incharges, signaling a full-fledged push to consolidate the party’s presence in the state.

The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, covering all 243 seats, are slated for October–November 2025. In the previous 2020 polls, the NDA formed the government with Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. The political scene has seen dramatic shifts since then: in August 2022, JD(U) parted ways with the NDA to join the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, only to return to the BJP-led NDA in January 2024, reinstating Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, BJP is leaving no stone unturned in other key states. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav has been appointed as election in-charge for West Bengal, with former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as co-incharge. In Tamil Nadu, Baijayant Panda will lead the party’s poll strategy, ensuring a strong BJP push in the southern state. Additionally, Murlidhar Mohol joins as co-incharge for Bihar, reinforcing the party’s campaign machinery.
