New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) staged a massive protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 and demanding its immediate withdrawal. The board claims the bill threatens the protection of Waqf properties, sparking concerns over religious rights.

Government leaders, however, have maintained that the country will function “according to the law”, with the bill expected to be presented in Parliament during the second half of the Budget session.

AIMPLB Vice-President Ubaidullah Azmi strongly criticized the bill, equating the protection of Waqf properties with religious obligations like prayer and fasting. “The government should have acted against those encroaching upon Waqf land, but instead, it has introduced a law that enables the government to take control of Waqf properties,” he stated.

Azmi further accused the government of undermining constitutional rights, declaring, “This land does not belong to anyone’s ancestors. We have sacrificed for this country, and we will continue to do so.” He warned that if the bill is not repealed, Muslims, under AIMPLB’s leadership, are prepared to make any sacrifice required.

The protest witnessed heavy police deployment to maintain order at Jantar Mantar. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also joined the demonstration, lending his support to AIMPLB’s stance against the Waqf Amendment Bill.
