New Delhi: In a significant development in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, the Supreme Court on Monday disposed of a petition filed by the victim’s parents seeking a fresh CBI investigation into the horrific crime. The case, involving the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor within the Kolkata-based medical institution, has triggered public outrage and demands for justice.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna ruled that the petitioners are free to pursue their plea before the Calcutta High Court instead. The apex court refrained from directing a CBI probe at this stage, redirecting the legal battle to the state judiciary for further consideration.
The victim’s family was represented by Senior Advocate Karuna Nundi, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the CBI, presenting the agency’s stance.
