Advocate Abdul Majid Banday elected as Joint Secretary for Handwara Bar Association

Srinagar: Handwara Bar Association got a new body with Advocate Abdul Majid Banday elected as Joint Secretary on Monday following an election that took place on Monday following strict protocol of Covid-19 pandemic. 

Abdul Majid Banday, United Kingdom returned lawyer was elected as joint secretary. Abdul Majid Banday pipped his nearest rival by 12 votes. Banday got 46 votes as against 34 votes secured by his rival and former treasurer Bar Association Handwara.

Announcing the results after nearly three-hour-long counting at the Additional Sessions Court Complex here on Monday evening, reports said a total of 11 candidates were in the fray, including two for the post of Joint Secretary.

The election was held at the Court complex on Monday and the counting of votes began at around 4 pm on Monday. Of the 82 members, 80 took part in the elections to elect the new body, reports said. The Handwara Bar Association is perhaps one of the oldest bar associations in the Kashmir valley.
