Mumbai: With the Flood like situation prevailing in Bhandara district for the past two days, rescue operation and evacuation of people have been put on war footing by the local district administration since Monday morning.
The Bhandara administration has pulled up its socks to deal with the flood situation in Bhandara district. 4104 families in 58 villages of the district have been affected by the floods. Out of these 14,813 people have been rescued and evacuated to safer places so far by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Teams (SDRF) and also the Indian Air Force (IAF).

3251 families in 23 villages of Bhandara taluka, 505 families in 22 villages of Pawani taluka, 127 families in 5 villages in Tumsar Taluka, 164 families in 6 villages in Mohadi Taluka and 57 families in 2 villages in Lakhandur taluka, which gives total of 14,813 people from 4,104 families of 58 villages were rescued safely and shifted to safer places.
“Four teams of NDRF were airlifted from Pune to Nagpur, In view of evolving flood situation in districts of Vidarbha division. These teams have been deployed in Nagpur and Chandrapur district tentatively. These four teams are in addition to the one team already deployed in Nagpur district,” said Sachchidanand Gawade, Second-in-Command of the 5th Battalion of the NDRF.
The affected families are still being shifted to safer places. Meanwhile, 4 teams of the SDRF and 2 teams of the NDRF are still working in the district and rescue work is still being carried out in the district by 17 boats.
The overflowing water from the Wainganga river and water released from Gosekhurd dam has entered in various parts of the district which resulted in huge damage to property of the villagers. At present, 4,104 houses have been destroyed and the families have been suffering as they don’t have even a roof to protect themselves from water. The power supply is fluctuating for two consecutive days and people are suffering.
On the other side, all 33 gates of the Gosekhurd dam have been opened, which is letting out 30,117 cusec water from Madhya Pradesh, it seems that it will take time for the flood water level going down of the district
