The flood situation in East Vidarbha is critical and floods have caused severe damage in Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts.
“This situation has arisen due to lack of proper coordination with the Madhya Pradesh government. The water reached 36 hours after the release of Rajivsagar dam. The damage could have been avoided if the citizens had been alerted in time. Failure to do so, however, has caused severe damage to houses and farms along the river. About 5,000 families are affected in Bhandara district and 13 villages in Chandrapur are affected. In Gondia, 40 villages are affected”, said Fadnavis.
Further, he said, many villages in Gadchiroli have lost contact. Even now, the state government should take immediate steps to help. NDRF’s help could have been sought in time, but it was also delayed. Now the state government should help in time by conducting immediate inspection.
