Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the formation of a BJP-led government in West Bengal has strengthened Assam’s sense of security and created new opportunities for regional cooperation.
Speaking after the recent oath-taking ceremony in Bengal, the Assam Chief Minister said both states can now work closely on shared challenges and development goals.
“Now that we (BJP) have a govt in Bengal, Assam is feeling more secure because we face a lot of common issues. The governments of West Bengal and Assam can work jointly in many areas to develop our states,” Sarma said.
Assam CM Says Political Alignment Will Benefit Northeast
Sarma described the current political situation as a significant shift for eastern and northeastern India, saying stronger collaboration between the two neighbouring states was not possible for decades.
“This was not the case in the last 60 years. The future is looking great,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister also referred to the participation of the West Bengal Chief Minister in the swearing-in event, calling it a sign of improving ties and political coordination.
‘Bright Future For The North East’
Highlighting the response from people in West Bengal, Sarma said the support shown during the ceremony reflected a positive atmosphere for regional development.
“The presence of West Bengal CM at the oath-taking ceremony yesterday, and the kind of love people of West Bengal showed for us, projects a bright future for the North East,” he added.
Political analysts believe the remarks indicate the BJP’s strategy of enhancing coordination among eastern and northeastern states on infrastructure, connectivity and governance initiatives.
