New Delhi: The second phase of the Budget session witnessed a dramatic start on Monday as Opposition MPs staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha over concerns regarding delimitation and the National Education Policy (NEP).

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) took center stage in attacking the Union government, strongly opposing the implementation of NEP in Tamil Nadu. In the Lok Sabha, tensions escalated when Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused the DMK of “dishonesty” and playing “politics” at the expense of Tamil Nadu students’ future. As Pradhan spoke, DMK MPs entered the well of the House in protest.

DMK MP P Wilson later explained the party’s stance, stating that they had submitted a notice under Rule 267 of the Business Rules in the Rajya Sabha to discuss fair delimitation for Tamil Nadu. “This is critical, as the state has seen minimal population growth due to family planning policies. There is a growing concern about impending delimitation changes set to take effect in 2026,” Wilson wrote in a post on X.

The party walked out after Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh refused to allow a discussion on the issue. DMK floor leader Tiruchi Siva also expressed concerns over what he called an “unfair delimitation process” that could reduce Tamil Nadu’s political representation.

Reacting to the Opposition’s protest, BJP leader and Union Health Minister JP Nadda hit back, accusing them of “orchestrating a walkout to create a false narrative.” He dismissed their notices under Rule 267, calling it a “vicious design” to disrupt Parliament. “The Opposition is not interested in debate. They want to create an impression that the government is avoiding discussion,” Nadda said.
