New Delhi: Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera on Monday accused the BJP-led Central government of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a political tool to divert attention from crucial national issues, particularly the ongoing Parliament session. His remarks came as ED officials conducted searches at multiple locations linked to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, including the residence of his son, Chaitanya Baghel.

Khera alleged that the raids were part of a larger conspiracy to shift focus away from pressing concerns. “BJP, which is surrounded on all sides and struggling to defend itself, needs a distraction. They want to divert attention, change the headlines, and this could very well be part of that conspiracy,” he said.

Questioning the rationale behind the ED’s actions, Khera pointed out that a CBI case against Baghel was recently dismissed by the court. “There is no case against him, yet the ED is raiding his premises today. It is not a coincidence that this raid is happening just as the Parliament session begins,” he added.

He also hinted that the move could be an attempt to hinder Baghel’s political activities in Punjab, where he recently took charge as Congress’ state in-charge. “This could be an attempt to disturb him as he takes up his new role in Punjab,” Khera said, adding that such misuse of central agencies for political vendetta would not go unnoticed.
