New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a crucial high-level meeting today to review the security situation in Manipur, which has been grappling with ethnic strife since May 2023. The meeting, held at North Avenue in the national capital, marked the first such review after the imposition of President’s Rule in the state earlier this year.
The meeting, which began at 11:00 am, was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla, senior state government officials, and top representatives from the Army and paramilitary forces. Sources of India TV revealed that the discussions centered on restoring normalcy in the restive state and ensuring the surrender of illegal and looted arms held by various groups.
Key Focus Areas
During the meeting, Amit Shah took stock of the current security scenario in Manipur, with officials providing a detailed briefing on the law and order situation. The Home Minister emphasized the need to return the state to the pre-May 2023 level of normalcy, when the ethnic violence first erupted.
One of the primary objectives of the meeting was to expedite the process of disarming groups in possession of illegal and looted weapons. Governor Ajay Bhalla had earlier issued an ultimatum on February 20, urging all individuals and groups holding such arms to surrender them immediately.
