166 Bn BSF Organises Walkathon Under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in Handwara

Handwara: The 166 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday organised a walkathon under the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ as part of its ongoing Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025 in Handwara. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.

The walkathon saw enthusiastic participation from students of AIIMS Handwara, led by Principal Mir Sulaiman, and New Millennium Secondary School, Handwara, under the guidance of Principal Shahbaz Ahmad. Local residents and BSF personnel also joined the programme, making it a collective community effort.

The event was organised in accordance with the directions of SHQ BSF Kupwara and was conducted under the leadership of Shri Harvinder Singh, Commandant, 166 Bn BSF. Participants marched with posters and banners carrying strong messages against drug addiction, highlighting the need for awareness and prevention.

Addressing the gathering, chief speaker Dr Owais Ahmad spoke in detail about the serious physical, mental, and social consequences of drug abuse. He emphasised that addiction not only ruins individual health and potential but also damages families, weakens the social fabric, and poses broader challenges to society and national security.

On the occasion, students, villagers, and BSF personnel were urged to stay away from drugs, adopt disciplined lifestyles, and encourage young people to channel their energy into positive and constructive activities. Nearly 150 students, villagers, and force personnel took part in the programme.

All participants were administered a pledge to actively contribute towards building a drug-free society.

The programme was attended by senior BSF officers including Shri Rahul, Second-in-Command, Shri Anil Kumar Vats, Deputy Commandant, and Shri Anand Kumar, Assistant Commandant, among others.
