Mumbai: What was expected to be a routine political interaction turned into a deeply reflective and memorable experience for Shiv Sena MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, who recently spent over one and a half hours in conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, the Prime Minister’s official residence.

In a post shared after the meeting, Dr. Shinde described the interaction as one that would stay with him for a lifetime — marked not by political discussion alone, but by lessons on leadership, self-discipline, and inner clarity.

Despite the winter chill in Delhi, the atmosphere inside 7 LKM was described as “warm and welcoming,” as the Prime Minister spoke candidly about his early struggles, his understanding of leadership, and the values shaped over decades of public service.

One moment that stood out for Dr. Shinde was his question to the Prime Minister on how he handles pressure while leading the nation.

“When your purpose is clear, pressure dissolves,”

Prime Minister Modi replied — a line that, according to Dr. Shinde, has stayed with him since.

Lessons in Discipline and Self-Mastery

The conversation also touched upon Prime Minister Modi’s personal discipline and work ethic. Dr. Shinde noted that the Prime Minister spoke about managing a demanding national schedule on approximately 3.5 hours of sleep, underscoring the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to rest and focus.

Equally striking was the Prime Minister’s approach to handling anger and emotional strain. He shared a simple yet powerful method: writing down emotions and consciously letting them go — a practice Dr. Shinde described as a lesson in self-mastery rather than mere stress management.

Wisdom in Simplicity

Some of the most impactful moments of the meeting came through stories of simplicity. When asked about his command over Hindi, Prime Minister Modi recalled learning the language informally from cattle-herders at Mehsana railway station during his early years — a reflection of humility and learning drawn directly from everyday life.

Dr. Shinde noted that this anecdote served as a reminder that true learning often comes not from institutions alone, but from lived experience and attentive listening.

The Prime Minister also recommended Benjamin Franklin’s biography, which Dr. Shinde described as more than a reading suggestion — calling it a guide to understanding leadership, character, and lifelong learning.

Leadership Beyond Authority

Summing up the experience, Dr. Shrikant Shinde observed that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership philosophy extends far beyond authority or position.

According to him, the interaction reinforced the idea that leadership is built on clarity of purpose, empathy, discipline, and staying rooted in values — qualities that continue to define the Prime Minister’s public life.

Dr. Shinde said he left 7 Lok Kalyan Marg with a deep sense of calm, clarity, and renewed responsibility, carrying forward lessons that he believes will guide him in his public role.

The meeting, though informal in structure, offered a rare glimpse into the Prime Minister’s personal philosophies — leaving behind not just memories, but enduring guidance on leadership and public service.
