Violence broke out in Parbhani, Maharashtra, on Wednesday after allegations surfaced of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue being insulted. Protesters, outraged by the incident, set vehicles on fire and demanded strict action against those responsible for the act. They declared that they would not tolerate any disrespect towards Babasaheb and the Indian Constitution.
The police swiftly intervened to control the escalating situation, using tear gas to disperse the crowd. A heavy police presence was deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
Prakash Ambedkar, president of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), expressed support for the protesters. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the incident, calling it “absolutely shameful” and criticizing the vandalism as an attack on Dalit identity. Ambedkar also noted that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred. He acknowledged the efforts of VBA workers in Parbhani, whose protests led to the police filing an FIR and arresting one of the accused.
Ambedkar urged everyone to maintain peace but warned that further action would follow if all the responsible individuals were not arrested within 24 hours. He ended his message with “Jai Bhim,” a slogan associated with Ambedkar’s movement.
“This post has helped me solve my issue, thanks a ton!”
