Honor for a Maharashtrian Son Dedicated to Environmental Conservation

Mumbai – “It is a matter of pride for the nation and the state that an international prestigious ‘Champions of the Earth’ Lifetime Achievement Award has been conferred upon a son of Maharashtra who has tirelessly worked for environmental conservation,” stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as he congratulated senior environmental scientist Dr. Madhav Gadgil.
In his congratulatory message, the Chief Minister remarked that Dr. Gadgil’s inclusion among six global luminaries selected for the prestigious United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) ‘Champions of the Earth’ awards is a significant honor for all of us. This award is a fitting recognition of Dr. Gadgil’s dedicated work. Environmental protection and biodiversity conservation have been his lifelong mission, which he has considered his purpose of life.
Over the past several decades, he has conducted relentless research in this field. His work, particularly concerning the ecologically sensitive and biodiverse Western Ghats, has been guiding and directional. It continues to inspire and encourage all of us to protect, conserve, and nurture the environment.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Dr. Gadgil will continue to make invaluable contributions to this field. “Congratulations to Dr. Gadgil on this international recognition and best wishes for his future endeavors,” the Chief Minister added.
