Handwara: General officer commanding (GOC), 15 Corps Srinagar based DP Pandey on Thursday said that the incidents of violence have come down gradually, and Kashmir is heading towards stability.
Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of a function at Handwara, Pandey said that in the last few days there have been some incidents of violence, where unarmed civilians are being targeted from behind. “This is because of cross border and internal conspiracy. These violent incidents are due frustration of the enemies of peace. These enemies try to create the environment of fear to run their business of violence,” he said.
In a function organized at Army Goodwill School, Budkot Handwara DP Pandey, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps renamed the school as “Ashutosh Army Goodwill School, Budkot” in memory of late Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, who was killed last year in an anti-militancy operation in Handwara.
He said the security forces are on job to curb the incidents of violence, to have a peaceful environment, while the overall situation is stable and under control.
Talking about Handwara, he said that the security forces have made enormous sacrifices to ensure peace in the area. “The people of Handwara have also extended a great support with security forces in reducing violence,” he added.
While rejecting the home-grown militancy, Pandey accused Pakistan of inciting violence in Kashmir. “Pakistan is going around the world with a claim that this all violence is home-grown trouble, but the fact is it is Pakistan backed violence. The entire process of violence in Kashmir is operated by Pakistani militants. They want the Kashmiri youth to get killed and create further alienation “he said.
Top officials said, “We have to be careful to ensure peace, stability and to protect the lives of our people, this is our prime concern.”
“Pakistan is also using social media tools, where our few youths are falling to their propaganda to raise violence in Kashmir.”
He expressed his gratitude to the late Colonel Ashutosh Sharma who was killed last year in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Handwara.
