Thirty-nine Indian contestants competed against participants from 15 countries, helping India secure second place in the overall team rankings.
Taipei: India delivered an impressive performance at the recently concluded AIAMA World Championship for Abacus and Mental Math, winning 46 awards across different age groups and competition categories.
The championship, organised by the Abacusking International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Alliance (AIAMA), brought together 228 contestants from 15 countries. India was represented by 39 participants aged between six and 14 years.
The Indian contingent included students from Wonder Kidz Learning Academy’s centres in Mumbai, Utkarsh Creations in Pune and Study Abacus in Delhi. According to the organisers, the students demonstrated exceptional speed, concentration and mental calculation skills while competing at the international level.
Mumbai students shine
Thirteen participants from Mumbai secured third position in their respective groups. They were:
Avani Borhade, Ahyaan Sayyed, Anvi Khatri, Aaradhya Patil, Prisha Satam, Arnav Wadkar, Kalash Kattulu, Purva Murudkar, Aarush Patil, Vanshika Chavan, Yash Parab, Tanmay Mangat and Vaidehi Lawande.
Ten other contestants secured second position in their respective categories. They were:
Nirvighn Kulkarni, Prisha Shivdas, Advay Patkar, Aadiraj Mestri, Neha Kadam, Omkar Pawar, Anay Patil, Jay Borhade, Shashwat Dasari and Riaan Chandarana.
Jay Bhangare won the first prize and was also honoured with the Outstanding Contestant Award, adding another major achievement to India’s medal tally.
Coaches recognised
The coaching team of Wonder Kidz Learning Academy was also recognised for its contribution to the students’ success.
Leena Patil and Shruti Patil received the Excellent Coach Award for their guidance, dedication and efforts in preparing the young participants for the international competition.
India’s collective performance helped the country secure second place in the overall team rankings. Taiwan finished first and received the Best Team Award under the leadership of Head Master Rex Yang.
Three honours for Ashutosh Patil
Ashutosh Patil, India’s Ambassador and Council Member of Abacusking, received three awards during the championship.
He was recognised on his promotion from India Head to Asia Head and also received the Distinguished Service Award and Most Loyal Member Award.
Patil is the founder and director of Wonder Kidz Learning Academy. According to the organisers, he was the only representative to receive three honours at the championship.
India’s performance at the tournament reflected the growing interest in abacus-based learning and mental arithmetic among young students. The results also strengthened the country’s standing in international abacus and mental mathematics competitions.
The next international championship is scheduled to be held in Japan in 2027.
