Tragic Loss of Indian Army Colonel, Major, and J&K Police DSP in Kashmir Encounter

In a somber development, an Indian Army Colonel commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit, along with a Major and a Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, have lost their lives in a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Anantnag region of Kashmir, according to officials.

The Indian Army confirmed this tragic incident, stating, “An Indian Army Colonel commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit along with a Major have lost their lives in an encounter in Anantnag with terrorists in Kashmir. The officer was commanding 19 RR.”

Additionally, reports from the news agency KDC cited officials indicating that a Major and a Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who had sustained critical injuries during the gunfight, later succumbed to their injuries.

The individuals who lost their lives in this tragic incident have been identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, who was serving as the Commanding Officer of 19-Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat, who was the son of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ghulam Hassan Bhat.

Earlier today, an encounter erupted in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district between security forces and terrorists. This encounter resulted in injuries to officers from both the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The official social media handle of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on ‘X’ posted, “An encounter has started in Kokernag area of Anantnag. Officers from the Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) were injured. Details shall follow.”

Meanwhile, in a separate encounter that began in the Narla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri on Tuesday, security forces successfully neutralized two terrorists. During a search operation amidst the encounter, security forces recovered a substantial quantity of warlike materials, including medicines with markings from Pakistan.

The Defence PRO, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, provided additional context, revealing that the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had been tracking the movements of these two terrorists since September 7, leading to the successful operation.

This tragic encounter in Anantnag serves as a stark reminder of the risks and challenges faced by security forces in the region while ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
