In a landmark event, the Homestay Entrepreneurship Training Program was launched today in Sonmarg, marking a collaborative effort between the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and J&K Bank under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Spearheaded by the Sonamarg Development Authority and Tourism Department, the inauguration ceremony welcomed 35 enthusiastic trainees from Sonmarg, eager to delve into the realm of entrepreneurship.

The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of the Chief Executive Officer of the Sonmarg Development Authority, highlighting the program’s significance in fostering sustainable tourism and empowering the local community as key contributors to the region’s economic growth.

Key speakers at the event, including Mr. Tariq Nazir Banday from J&K Bank CSR, emphasized the institution’s commitment to supporting initiatives driving local empowerment and sustainable development. Insights into the region’s tourism potential and the pivotal role of well-managed homestays were shared by the Tourist Officer of Sonmarg.

Advocate Nadeem Qadri contributed valuable experiences and efforts towards creating green spaces and empowering local communities through sustainable initiatives. Additionally, he provided essential legal insights, ensuring the trainees are well-versed in the legal aspects of homestay management, creating a secure business environment.

Mr. Waseem from KPMG provided industry best practices and global market trends, enriching the program with a broader perspective. Mr. Ashraf Wani from JK DAG, the training partner for the project, focused on aligning the program with Sonmarg’s cultural ethos and meeting the unique needs of the community.

The active participation of 35 trainees reflects the local community’s enthusiasm to embrace entrepreneurship and contribute to the region’s tourism growth.
