Sessions court rejected bail of the arrested alleged 25 accused in the killing of two monks and the driver in Palghar district in April while they were travelling to Surat to attend funeral of another monk
Mumbai: On Wednesday a session court rejected bail application of 25 arrested alleged accused in connection with Palghar lynching case. In the month of April two monks and their driver were beaten up by the mob and three victims succumbed to injuries.
The alleged arrested accused had attacked the two monks after a rumour surfaced that they could be the child-lifters. Later it came to light that amid lockdown a similar attack was made by the locals on unidentified persons under misconception of child-lifter rumours in Palghar district. The district police had later arrested 100 people in the same matter however the case is now probed by the state CID.
The Special Public Prosecutor Satish Maneshinde told the court that there is scientific evidence available against the arrested alleged accused. While opposing the bail application Maneshinde said that based on the examination of mobile phones of the arrested alleged accused it is evident that they were present at the crime spot.
The additional session judge rejected the bail application of all 25 arrested alleged accused on the technical ground. The prosecution told the court that On April 16, the Eeco car with its ill-fated passengers Mahant Kalpavruksha Giri (70), Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) and driver Naresh Yelgade (30) had headed for the funeral of another monk in Surat. The mob of about 500 people brutally attacked the two monks and their driver.
