BMC Urdu School in Mankhurd runs actual classroom and risks lives of students in times of coronavirus

The education department has asked not to start any actual (physical) class instead insisted on run-virtual learning for students however the school run by the BMC has been calling students in the school to teach.

Mumbai: In the pandemic crisis of coronavirus the Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has passed an order and asked the schools across Maharashtra to teach students e-learning instead of actual classroom studies. Following this, the city corporation schools in Mumbai have initiated virtual classrooms for the students with them. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools teach in Urdu medium also. An Urdu medium BMC school in Mankhurd has been conducting actual classrooms for its students.

“The Urdu medium school number 8 in Shivaji Nagar, Mankhurd is running its actual classroom for about 50 students. The two teachers, a male and female, have been asked to divide the total students in two divisions. The groups of 25-22 students of class Seventh daily attend the lectures in the classroom. The administrative officer (AO ) Madhuri Mahajan , Beat Officer (BO) Arifa Salim Shaikh and the headmaster with two teachers have been running the class from June onwards,” said a source from the BMC .The students are unable to follow any social distancing and they use the common toilet risking lives by forcibly sitting in the classroom.

The parents of this Urdu medium school number 8, were approached by the teachers to send the students to school as they cannot afford the android phone. “The parents were kept in dark on the order by the education ministry regarding no actual classroom studies for this academic year. Later, parents raised their concern amid lockdown to the school authorities but had paid no attention,” added the source.

When TheNews21 asked Anjali Naik Chairperson of BMC Education Committee said, “I have served the show cause notice to all these connected in running the actual classroom in a pandemic crisis of coronavirus. I had asked the AO Madhuri Mahajan to call students along with their parents and distribute text books to each one of them. I had asked so that all the students can get the textbooks for their e-learning classes by teachers.”
