Dr Varavara Rao activist’s family alleges conspiracy by the jail authorities!

The family members of Dr Rao suspect that he would be discharged from hospital on the fitness ground before his bail plea on health grounds is even heard by the court.

Mumbai: On Tuesday the family of the poet and activist Varavara Rao filed a fresh application in the Bombay High Court after he was admitted in the government hospital suffering from serious health-issues.

On July 11, the 81-year-old Rao was admitted to the J J Hospital under neurology after his complaint of giddiness in Taloja jail. Rao’s relative Venugopal Rao claimed that a petition was filed in the month of June in Bombay High Court against a special NIA court order rejecting his bail application. This plea has been adjourned for a few times and is scheduled for hearing on July 17.

Now since his health has deteriorated the relatives have moved an urgent praecipe through their lawyer before the High Court.

Rao’s relative Venugopalan  alleged that, “The jail authorities in June month did the same when he was admitted in hospital and just before his bail hearing they produced his normalcy report .Dr Rao’s application for his bail is due on July 17 and this time also the authorities may play the same trick ensuring his bail gets rejected .”

Venugopalan also alleged that the jail authorities from Taloja Jail have not informed them after Dr Rao was admitted in the state -run-JJ hospital.

“Through our lawyer we have filed a fresh application in Bombay High Court today asking the superintendent of Taloja Jail to direct and submit all medical records before the court,” said Venugopalan.

The relative also told that through their lawyer they filed an application to prepone hearing on the petition but it was not heard on Tuesday too.

He also said that the family is not getting any official update on Rao’s health. Rao’s family had asked the jail authorities to provide him with immediate medical help on Sunday and also claimed that the activist in the last week told the family that he is not in good mental health.

Thus the family of Rao alleged that the poet and activist were not being given the medical attention he needed in jail.
