New Delhi: In a recent hearing, the Supreme Court granted interim protection to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia from arrest following multiple FIRs filed over his controversial comments on the comedy show India’s Got Latent. Allahbadia’s remarks about “parents’ sex” sparked outrage, leading to several police complaints and widespread condemnation.

The bench, led by Justice Surya Kant, expressed extreme disapproval of Allahbadia’s comments, labelling them as “offensive, disgusting, and filthy.” The court reprimanded Allahbadia, stating, “No one has the license to speak whatever they want against the norms of society in the name of free speech.” Further, the court questioned, “Do you have the license to say anything to give vent to your dirty mind?” The remarks were deemed particularly shameful to parents, sisters, mothers, and children.

Despite Allahbadia’s claims of receiving threats on social media in response to the comments, the court dismissed the concerns, attributing the threats to attempts at “cheap counter publicity.” Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna assured that the case would be scheduled for a bench hearing in the coming days.

The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s comments during the India’s Got Latent show, which led to multiple formal complaints filed across the country. Authorities from Assam and Maharashtra have issued summons, and the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has directed Allahbadia to appear before them on February 24. Other YouTubers, including comedian Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, are also named in the ongoing legal proceedings.
