Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday raised serious concerns over the stampede incidents that recently took place at New Delhi Railway Station and Prayagraj, accusing the government of attempting to suppress the truth. Referring to the deadly stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on February 15, which claimed 18 lives, Raut questioned the government’s transparency, saying, “Whether it’s the Delhi station incident or the Prayagraj incident, the government is trying to hide the truth. Even today, 6,000 people are missing. Can you tell where they have gone in Kumbh?”
The tragic stampede occurred around 10 p.m. on February 15, as a huge influx of devotees headed to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The massive crowd surge led to panic and chaos, causing the fatalities. Indian Railways has announced compensation for the victims: Rs 10 lakh for the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for serious injuries, and Rs 1 lakh for minor injuries.
Raut also referred to a stampede during the Mahakumbh on January 29, which led to 30 deaths and 60 injuries during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual. On Eknath Shinde’s visit to the Maha Kumbh, Raut sarcastically remarked, “Whether they go to Maha Kumbh or any other holy place, their sins will not be washed away.”
