Mumbai: More than 48 hours have passed since Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was brutally attacked in his Bandra apartment, and the assailant remains at large. Despite the efforts of over 30 Mumbai Police teams, the attacker, who stabbed Saif Ali Khan multiple times during a robbery attempt early Thursday, has not yet been caught.
Saif Ali Khan, 54, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in a blood-soaked condition and underwent emergency surgery to treat multiple stab wounds, including one near his neck. Doctors have reported that the actor is recovering well and is expected to be discharged within the next two to three days.
The attacker, described as an unidentified intruder, was captured on CCTV footage wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack, rushing down the stairs from the sixth floor of the building around 2:30 am. The police initially detained a carpenter who resembled the attacker, but later released him after questioning.
Authorities have ruled out any connections to the underworld or criminal gangs, stating that the assailant may not have known whose home he was entering. Investigations suggest the attack was likely a robbery attempt gone wrong.
Dr. Nitin Dange, who treated Saif Ali Khan, confirmed that during surgery, a 2.5-inch knife fragment was removed from the actor’s spine. He added that the injury could have been much worse had the blade penetrated just 2 millimeters further.
In a remarkable display of resilience, Saif Ali Khan reportedly walked into the hospital “like a lion” despite being soaked in blood. His wife, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, has also recorded a statement with the police in connection with the attack.
The media has also spotlighted Bhajan Singh Rana, the autorickshaw driver who transported Saif Ali Khan to the hospital. He has been hailed as a hero for his swift action, though he was unaware of the identity of his blood-soaked passenger.
