Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Working President Praful Patel on Thursday took sharp aim at Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, terming his recent remarks as “childish” and detrimental to his own party.

In a strong statement that reflects growing unease within the political landscape, Patel said, “It is the misfortune of our country that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the leader of a big party like the Indian National Congress say such childish things. This is both sad and surprising.”

Patel, a key leader of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, further underscored the unity displayed by the country during times of crisis, subtly implying that any divisive or ill-timed statements by senior Opposition figures only weaken India’s internal solidarity. “Today, our country has succeeded in fighting the enemy with the message of unity…this is not going to harm Modi Ji or anyone else. The only harm will be caused to the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi,” he added.

Patel’s remarks come in the wake of criticism directed at Rahul Gandhi for his public questioning of the government’s handling of national security incidents, including his tweet during Operation Sindoor. The Congress leader had asked how many Indian Air Force aircraft were lost—comments that BJP leaders and now allies like Patel have said damage India’s morale and international standing.
