Madhubani: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that the party began stealing votes in Gujarat before scaling the practice to the national level during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Addressing the “Samajik Adhikar Samvad” in Phulparas, Gandhi claimed that BJP has been involved in systematic vote theft for years, which went unnoticed until large-scale irregularities were reported in Maharashtra and Haryana.

“When a person steals Rs 10 from somebody’s pocket, he does not get alarmed, but when Rs 1,000 is stolen, he gets alerted,” Gandhi said, drawing an analogy to BJP’s alleged electoral malpractices. He further stated, “It is like a thief remaining fully silent when his theft is caught.”

Gandhi criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s earlier statement that BJP would remain in power for 40-50 years, asserting that the party could make such claims only because it allegedly manipulates votes. He also alleged that a law passed in 2023 barred judicial action against the Election Commission, allowing BJP to commit vote theft with impunity.

“In Bihar, names of 65 lakh voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls, but they would add 65 lakh new voters to the list,” Gandhi asserted, highlighting his concerns about electoral manipulation.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was present at the event, showing support for Gandhi’s remarks.

Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav added that BJP is not only a “vote chor” but also a “reservation chor,” criticizing the party for not including Bihar’s enhanced reservation quota in the 9th schedule of the Constitution. He said only 4-5 percent of Mandal Commission recommendations have been implemented so far and vowed that all recommendations would be enforced if the INDIA bloc formed the government in Bihar.
