Dapoli: In an attempt to present a polished image before Ganesh Chaturthi, the Dapoli Nagar Panchayat began road repair work late at night, but the effort backfired when Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) taluka leader Hrishikesh Gujar exposed the poor quality of the work.

The Panchayat had initiated the pothole-filling exercise after 8:30 pm, aiming to have roads appear smooth and ready by morning for festival traffic. However, Gujar, passing through the area, noticed the night-time operations and stopped to inspect the work. He discovered that laborers were using coarse sand with minimal or no cement, raising concerns about the durability of the repairs.

Upon questioning, the workers admitted they were under pressure to complete the task quickly. Gujar criticized the Panchayat for attempting to cover inefficiencies rather than addressing the citizens’ real concerns. “This is not about shortcuts; this is about accountability,” he said, emphasizing that taxpayer money should be spent effectively and that temporary fixes are unacceptable.

The incident has drawn attention to the Nagar Panchayat’s approach to civic works, highlighting issues of transparency, quality, and urgency that only appear around festivals
