‘Extremely Heartbreaking’: Rahul Gandhi Calls for Urgent Relief as Bihar Floods Kill Lives

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed condolences over the deaths caused by the severe floods in Bihar and urged authorities to speed up rescue and relief operations across the affected areas.

In a post on X, Gandhi said the loss of lives had caused deep distress and conveyed his sympathies to families who had lost their loved ones.

“The loss of lives due to the devastating floods in Bihar is extremely heartbreaking and soul-wrenching,” Gandhi wrote.

He also appealed to Congress workers to assist people affected by the floods. Gandhi called on the government and local administration to ensure that essential supplies and other assistance reach affected families without delay.

Mallikarjun Kharge seeks immediate assistance

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed concern over the flood situation and called for immediate relief, rescue, medical support and rehabilitation.

Kharge said nearly 50 lakh people had been affected across 15 districts, with flooding disrupting normal life in thousands of villages.

“The loss of lives due to floods in Bihar is extremely heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” Kharge said in his post on X.

He urged the government and administration to prioritise affected families and ensure that relief reaches them quickly.

Kharge also called on Congress workers to visit affected areas and provide whatever assistance they can.

Floods affect 49.67 lakh people

According to the Bihar Disaster Management Department, 49.67 lakh people have been affected by the floods across 15 districts.

The affected districts include Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura and Araria.

With large parts of the state facing disruption, the Congress leaders have called for faster relief and rescue measures, while urging party workers to support people dealing with the flood situation.
