In a fiery turn of events, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress party, intensified his attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, branding him as one of the most corrupt Chief Ministers in the country. The Congress leader is currently spearheading the party’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, stretching from Manipur to Mumbai. The yatra, aimed at connecting people across the nation, took an unexpected turn as Congress workers clashed with Assam police when denied entry into Guwahati city.

During a press conference, Rahul Gandhi asserted, “Clear problem in Assam, chief minister of this state is one of the most corrupt CMs in the country… What the Assam CM is doing against the yatra is actually helping the yatra. We are getting the publicity that we may not have got otherwise.” He noted that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has become a focal issue in Assam, despite attempts to hinder its progress.

Responding to the clashes and the denial of entry, Rahul Gandhi stated, “Preventing from visiting the temple and college… it is their style. Intimidation tactics, we are not intimidated by them, we are not afraid of them.”

In a counter move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed the state Director General of Police (DGP) to register a case against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of allegedly “provoking the crowd.” Sarma denounced the tactics employed, referring to them as “Naxalite tactics,” asserting that they are alien to Assam’s culture. He further added, “I have instructed DGP Assam Police to register a case against your leader Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd.”

Rahul Gandhi had earlier claimed that he was not allowed to interact with students in the state. The clash between the Congress workers and Assam police and the ensuing war of words between political leaders has added a volatile layer to the ongoing political landscape in Assam.
