Delhi: Marking the 75th Constitution Day, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday unveiled a digital edition of the Constitution of India in nine regional languages — Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese. The launch took place in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the former Parliament building, where the original Constitution was adopted in 1949.

The event witnessed the presence of Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, and several dignitaries. Alongside the digital Constitution, a commemorative publication titled “Bharat ke Samvidhan mein Kala aur Calligraphy” was also released, celebrating the artistic heritage embedded in the original manuscript.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu said the Constitution remains a cornerstone of India’s dignity, unity, and democratic identity. Recalling the momentous day when the Constituent Assembly concluded its drafting work, she said, “On this very day, November 26, 1949, in this Central Hall, the members of the Constituent Assembly completed the task of drafting the Constitution of India… We, the people of India, adopted our Constitution here.”

She paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, calling him one of the principal architects whose vision laid the foundation for a just and inclusive nation.

Highlighting India’s social transformation, President Murmu said that women, youth, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, farmers, and the expanding middle class are reinforcing the strength of Indian democracy. She noted that lifting 25 crore citizens out of poverty stands among the country’s most significant achievements in recent decades.

The President added that the Constitution embodies India’s unwavering commitment to social justice and economic empowerment of marginalized communities. She called upon citizens and leaders to work collectively toward the vision of Viksit Bharat during the ongoing Amrit Kaal.

Since 2015, November 26 has been observed annually as Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas to honour the adoption of the Constitution. While several provisions came into force immediately after its adoption, the complete implementation began on January 26, 1950, when India transitioned into a Republic.
