Mumbai: Recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, BJP leader Udayanraje Bhosale’s slogans of Jai Bhavani and Jai Shivaji while taking oath kicked off a political storm in Maharashtra politics. Slamming the BJP, its one time ally the Shiv Sena alleged that this is an insult of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. By Thursday afternoon charges were being traded in the name of Shivaji Maharaj by Shiv Sena and Congress as they tried to corner the BJP.
It was alleged that it was Congress leader’s Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Ghulam Nabi Azad who had raised the objection and not the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice
President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut through a Tweet questioned, “Who will give the certificate that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s descendant was insulted or not?” He also taunted saying “BJP has gone mute and Sambhaji Bhide has not yet declared Satara bandh”.

Meanwhile in the footage video it can be clearly seen Venkaiah Naidu saying “This is not house but my chamber. New members of the house remember that while taking oath no slogans should be chanted it will not go on record.” He also warned “From future no one will get the chance to give slogans, let that be remembered”.
Following the incident Satara MP Udayan Raje took a press conference in which he stated nothing insulting like experience took place and I am not someone who would tolerate such kind of behaviour.
He explained himself saying “When I took oath and chanted Jai Bhavani Jai Shivaji some members in the Rajya Sabha objected to Chairman Naidu who reminded me the rules of house, “
After the accusations and allegations on this issue Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu gave statement that ” I have always been a strong and vocal admirer of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and worshipper of Goddess Bhawani. I just reminded Members that as per conventional practice at the time of taking oath, no slogans are given. No Disrespect to anyone at all ” .
When asked by The News 21 on this issue to BJP leader Keshav Upadhyay he said ” First of all Congress should apologise on this issue. If it wasn’t Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s objection this issue wouldn’t have flared up”-By Rishikesh Chavan
