Jharsuguda: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday sharply criticized the Congress party, accusing it of exploiting ordinary citizens and imposing taxes even on low-income groups. Speaking at the Namo Yuva Samabesh in Jharsuguda, Modi urged the public to be wary of the Congress and its allies.
“The Congress left no stone unturned when it came to looting people. They even imposed taxes on those earning as little as Rs 2 lakh annually. Our government increased this limit to over Rs 12 lakh. Citizens must remain alert about the Congress and its allies, who continue to exploit the common people,” Modi stated.
The Prime Minister also highlighted past instances of alleged misuse by Congress-led governments. “When our government reduced the price of cement, the Congress in Himachal Pradesh imposed its own tax. When GST rates were lowered, prices fell nationwide, but Congress has consistently avoided giving relief to the common people,” he said.
The remarks come shortly after the GST Council implemented a rationalization of tax rates, introducing a two-tier system of 5% and 18%, effective from September 22, which is expected to reduce costs for numerous products and services.
Modi further praised Odisha’s development under the so-called “double-engine” government, referring to BJP governance at both the state and central levels. “Odisha, long plagued by poverty, is now on the path to progress. Our focus is on empowering the poor, Dalits, and tribal communities,” he said.
Emphasizing self-reliance, Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, asserting, “From chip to ship, India must achieve complete self-reliance in all sectors.”
