New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday reiterated his strong stance against judicial “overreach,” emphasizing that Parliament holds supreme power in the country’s democratic framework. Speaking at an event at Delhi University, Dhankhar made it clear that elected representatives are the “ultimate masters” when it comes to deciding constitutional matters.

“Public representatives are severely accountable on occasion through elections. A Prime Minister who imposed an Emergency was held accountable. Democracy is for the people and is a repository of safeguarding, it is that of elected representatives,” Dhankhar stated, as quoted by News18.

Dhankhar further stressed that there is no constitutional provision for any authority above Parliament. “Elected representatives are the ultimate masters as to what constitutional content will be. There is no visualization in the Constitution of any authority above Parliament. Parliament is Supreme. It is as supreme as every individual in the country,” he said, reinforcing his belief in the supremacy of Parliament.
