Parliament Allots 25 Hours for Debate on Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam Attack; Opposition Demands Ministerial Accountability

New Delhi: In response to mounting pressure from Opposition parties, Parliament is set to dedicate 25 hours next week for discussions on the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The schedule includes 16 hours in the Lok Sabha and 9 hours in the Rajya Sabha, sources from the Business Advisory Committee confirmed on Sunday.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to depart for an official foreign visit this week, major deliberations are expected to begin only after his return. Until then, the Opposition has sharply criticized the government’s agenda for neglecting urgent matters of national security and internal stability.

Opposition leaders have specifically demanded the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the debates. Their presence, the Opposition argues, is essential for direct accountability on issues involving national intelligence and internal security lapses.

Additionally, the Opposition plans to raise concerns about the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls in Bihar, alleging irregularities, and the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Manipur. The Opposition bloc has accused the government of sidelining these critical issues in favor of less pressing discussions.

The Monsoon Session, which began on Monday, has already witnessed repeated disruptions. Sloganeering from the Opposition benches forced two adjournments in the Lok Sabha, first till noon and later till 2 PM. A similar uproar was seen in the Rajya Sabha, with leaders pressing for transparency and open debate.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi urged all parties to work in harmony for national progress. “The country has seen what unity can achieve. Even if our political paths differ, let our hearts unite for the nation’s good,” he said.
