Islamabad: In a sharp escalation of rhetoric following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has claimed that Islamabad possesses “credible intelligence” suggesting that India may launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours. This warning has sent shockwaves through the region, with the minister cautioning New Delhi that any such military action would trigger serious consequences.

“India’s claims of Pakistani involvement in the Pahalgam attack are baseless and concocted, aimed at justifying military aggression,” Tarar stated. He further emphasized that Pakistan has been a longstanding victim of terrorism and has consistently condemned it in all its forms. Tarar also accused India of evading an impartial investigation, while Pakistan had offered a “credible, transparent, and independent” probe by a neutral commission of experts. “India’s refusal to allow such an investigation is pushing both nations toward a confrontational path,” he added.

In a bold response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack and their “backers” would be identified, tracked, and punished. “We will pursue these killers to the ends of the earth,” Modi declared, intensifying India’s diplomatic offensive against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has urged the international community to remain vigilant, warning that any military adventurism by India would be met with a “decisive response.” The Pakistani government stressed that “the onus of any escalatory spiral and its consequences shall squarely lie with India.”

The heightened threat of an Indian military strike has reportedly caused chaos within Pakistan’s military ranks. According to a letter sent to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir by Lieutenant General Umar Ahmad Bukhari, over 1,450 soldiers—including 250 officers—have resigned in the past 72 hours. The mass resignations, which include personnel from key military regions such as the 12th Corps Quetta and the Force Command Northern Areas, are a sign of growing instability within the Pakistani military. Reports indicate that since the Pahalgam attack, around 5,000 troops and officers have quit their posts, further escalating concerns in Islamabad.
